My favorite memory of my time in Barcelona was visiting the Ferrer Family Winery to indulge in a private wine tasting. Driving up to the winery, I didn’t know what to expect. But once we walked in, my jaw touched the floor. The home was beautiful, the hosts were lovely, and the wine and food pairings were out of this world. Just thinking about it transports me to a time I will never forget.
The experience includes a tour of the family home and where the wine is made, an elaborate wine tasting, and food pairings. At the end of the tour, we had dinner overlooking the vineyard with more wine and a breathtaking view.
The Tour of the Vineyards and Home
The first thing we did was take a tour of the winery and it was absolutely stunning. Looking at the acres upon acres of vineyards, I felt a peace that I haven’t felt in a very long time. We were told the history of the winery and shown how the wine was made.
The CEO Jose Maria Ferrer’s family has lived on this land since the 16th century and recently did a beautiful renovation combing the old and new for an experience that speaks to all 5 senses.
One of the interesting part of the tour was that they painted parts of the house a specific dark blue color, pictured below, to deter insects. I need that in Florida!
The Wine Tasting and Show Cooking Experience
The main attraction of the day, the wine tasting and food pairings, started after the tour. We tasted 9 delicious wines. I swear each one was tastier than the last. Our wonderful host took the time to explain the notes in each wine. We each had our favorites and ended up shipping 12 bottles of wine home to us!
While we were tasting the wines, we had an interactive food demonstration in front of us. It was such an incredible experience. It felt like we were no long strangers, but friends drinking and enjoying a meal together.
Fresh herbs were used to make the freshest dishes we’ve had in Spain. I’ve included the dishes in the photo gallery below. All of the dishes were incredible, but I’ve been searching for the bread with tomato and “Iberico” and the prawns with basil and soy mayonnaise everywhere in the U.S.

We’ve Come to The End of the Wine Tasting Experience 😦
I’m sad even writing about the end of our experience. After the tour, cooking show, and wine tasting, we went to the terrence to enjoy our main course, a paella type dish, with the hosts. We laughed, drank, and enjoyed the moment. It was amazing socializing with people from a different culture and history and reminded me of why I love travel.
